Born in Linz, Austria. Since 2007 Professor at The Cluster of Excellence for Fundamental Physics at the Technical University Munich (Universe Cluster). His career includes research at Stanford University, California, on experimental nuclear physics and nanotechnology. He made his PhD in neutron physics at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland, and the Institute Laue-Langevin (ILL), France, (2005). Assistant at the University of Zuerich, Switzerland, (2002-2005). Master of Science at the Atominstitut in Vienna, Austria and the ILL (2002). Experience in academic and industry related research. Expertise in technological developments based on physics, engineering and computational modelling in a wide range of applications. Born in Stuttgart, Germany. Currently working as a consultant, after research in Political Science at Dresden University of Technology. Studied Political Science, European Studies, Communications Science and Philosophy at Dresden University of Technology (Germany) and University of Turku (Finland). Scholar of the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes”, of DAAD and “e-fellows”. Traineeships and research activities in the German Ministry of Foreign Relations, Berlin; Abo Akademi, Turku (Finland); and the German Embassy in Santiago de Chile. Special interests lie in the fields of International Relations, evolution of institutions, logics, European integration. Regional foci: Europe, Latin America and East Timor. e-mail
Martin Giersch

Born in Freiburg i.Br., Germany. Works in the field of nuclear physics and energy policy. Since 2002, expert for nuclear safety and renewable energies to the city of Vienna. Work experiences include risk assessment of nuclear facilities, dialogue with involved stakeholders, organization of public information campaigns and preparation of international expert meetings. He is involved in fundamental nuclear physics at the Stephan Meyer Institute for subatomic physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He gathered international experiences during scientific research at INFN-Daphne (Italy) and the development of the Swiss Ultracold Neutron Source - SUNS at PSI (Switzerland). He is the principal manager of the project "Communication Centre - Manor Schwarzbach" near to Dresden that is planned to serve IDC's activities in Germany. Special interests: Climate Change and Nuclear Energy, proliferation, peaceful use of nuclear energy, radiological hazards, European energy supply and production, risk perception and risk communication, vulnerability of social systems. e-mail
