Organised by the BWC Implementation Support Unit, Office for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations Office at Geneva together with the Geneva Forum, the seminar about Synthetic Biology: Building a Safe and Secure Future, will take place in Geneva, Switzerland at the 25th August 2010.

The US Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues held its first meeting on July 8-9 in Washington, DC.  The primary topic was synthetic biology.

Seminar about Synthetic Biology: Building a Safe and Secure Future. Geneva, Switzerland. 25th August 2010. Organised by the BWC Implementation Support Unit, Office for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations Office at Geneva, the seminar on the margins of the 2010 meetings of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) marks the culmination of 3 years of engagement on synthetic biology.  This first seminar of 2010 will brief the BWC community on non-security challenges raised by synthetic biology and illustrate how they are being dealt with. Dual use research in synthetic biology is the main topic of this international webcast, where Markus Schmidt from IDC will discuss European perspectives on dual use.
