Organised by the BWC Implementation Support Unit, Office for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations Office at Geneva together with the Geneva Forum, the seminar about Synthetic Biology: Building a Safe and Secure Future, will take place in Geneva, Switzerland at the 25th August 2010.

The US Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues held its first meeting on July 8-9 in Washington, DC.  The primary topic was synthetic biology.

1. Project Meeting Phnom Penh

First Project Meeting in Phnom Penh (25.08.2008 - 31.08.2008)

From 25.08 to 31.08.2008, Angela Meyer (IDC) and Veronika Hager (BOKU) have been visiting the Cambodian Partner in Cambiodiversity, the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) for a joint project meeting. They have met with the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, M. Chuong Sophal, and M. Adrian Bolliger from DED, who are both involved in the implementation of Cambiodiversity.

On Tuesday, 26.08.2008, they had a joint meeting at RUA to discuss the ongoing assessment and review activities and so far accomplished achievements. Furthermore, they went through the jointly elaborated questionnaire for farmers and prepared the planned interview activities. Finally, they visited the university's facilities, labs and test fields.

On Thursday, 28.08, and Friday, 29.08.2008, the Project Team had two field trips to farmers communities to conduct first series of interviews. They visited the Kaheng commune (Kampong Spen Province), and the communes of Krang Yov and Tik Vil (Kandal Province).
