Dr. Lei Pei

Born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. 2001 PhD in Clinical Bacteriology from Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. A postdoctoral research fellow in Massachusetts General Hospital (2002-05), Boston, MA, USA, and a postdoctoral researcher in the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) and Ghent University (2005-09), Ghent, Belgium. Previous research experience in the areas ofmolecular microbiology, with emphasis on microbial genome analysis; microbial pathogens with specific interests on antimicrobial agents and vaccine development; bioengineering on glycosylation pathways in microbes to produce recombinant proteins; biohazard management on biosafety level 2 and 3. Other working experiences include research and development in biotech industry. With IDC since June 2009, working on the FWF funded project "Investigating the biosafety and risk assessment needs of synthetic biology in Austria and China".
