Safe Energy Working Group

The Safe Energy Working Group bunches IDC´s activities in the field of sustainable energy supply, transport, distribution and energy consumption. The focus of the working group is on topics with high future relevance and innovation-driven, with the  consideration of societal perception and acceptance. Energy supply will mark a topic of central interest in economy and society in a conceivable timeframe for the future. Beside survey and analyses of the potentials of different technologies, the Working Group will do accompanying research regarding the socio-economic and environmental aspects, using technology assessment (TA) and risk assessment as an approach to develop meaningful options to support decision making processes.

Main topics:

  • Sustainable and long term relevant safe energy supply
  • Safety and security of critical energy infrastructure
  • Analyses of new technologies and socio-economic implications
  • Renewable energy sources, especially bio-based energy production
  • Change of energy consumption
  • Energy Charta of the European Union
  • Energy policy in developing countries

Current activities

The Safe Energy WG is supporting IDC's two other WGs in the projects TARPOL (socio-economic impact of novel biofuels) and Sustainergynet (sustainable energy sources in Africa).
