IDC Mission Statement

The Organisation for International Dialogue and Conflict Management was founded in 2002 by a group of then-students from a variety of scientific disciplines, wishing to institutionalize their engagement in activities related to global, environmental and socio-economic issues.

IDC is a non-profit, independent research organisation, established under the Austrian Law of Associations (Vereinsgesetz), with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Since 2002, it has been possible to further strengthen the interdisciplinary nature of IDC by bringing together creative and innovative thinkers from the fields of natural sciences, social sciences, and media work. The aim of IDC is to promote dialogue and exchange in science and research, whereas the main focus is set on current social and environmental developments, societal and technical changes, and major global challenges, in view of contributing towards preventing and mitigating social conflicts. In this regard, IDC is active in supporting and furthering the analysis of these trends, in strengthening international scientific cooperation, and in asserting the perception, acceptance and understanding of innovative and emerging technologies (e.g. in energy and biotechnology) by different stakeholders.

To fulfil its aims and objectives, IDC has set up a number of working groups in view of clustering IDC's various fields of interest and activity, while giving particular importance to an international approach.

IDC is committed to organize and participate in workshops, conferences and public meetings. These events allow to promote greater public awareness, and disseminate research results, while giving the possibility to network with key national and international stakeholders and policy makers.

As a non-profit organisation, IDC is covering its activities via European, national and international public research funding programmes, such as the European Commission’s Framework Programme.
